Spring is finally here! (Fingers Crossed)

I found that I never posted this when I originally typed it so better late than never I guess.....

I know my last post was labeled Spring News and based on the calendar that was true.  But not based on the type of weather we were having.  Spring is usually my favorite time of year.  It feels so good to get the cold and snow and dark days of winter behind and see the sun more, feel it's warmth and see the earth turn green again and colors come back with the flowers blooming.  This spring has been colder and the warm days have been fewer and farther between, but I do think we have finally turned the corner and I'm fairly confident that Mr. Frost won't be visiting us for awhile.

My garden has struggled.  The peas are not nearly as tall as I think they should be at this point.  My second crop of peas are hanging on for dear life, they are not thriving at all!  My lettuce seeds came up nicely but ended up all dying in the sunroom on one of the rare 70 degree days we had (which made the sun room even hotter, which lettuce doesn't like).  I went out an bought lettuce starts at the nursery and they were quite far along.  I planted them outside and they ended up wilting on one of the few really warm days that we had.  The new shoots are coming out so maybe we might get to enjoy home grown lettuce a bit this year, but not like in other years apparently.

Our apricot tree was full of "popcorn" when we experienced multiple cold snaps and so most of the fruit was frozen.  We may get more than last year however.  It's not hard to beat one!  Our peach trees & one apple tree may have been hit as well,   The jury is still out on them.

My early tomato starts are about ready to go outside.  My later starts have struggled.  I hope I'll have survivors from that since they are different varieties.

Dave talked me into letting him buy a 1949 FarmAll tractor with a plow & harrow attachments.  He was so pleased to get it.  He has been using it up at the ward garden getting the ground ready for planting.

We came close to buying almost an acre down in Enoch, near Cedar City in a foreclosure purchase.  We were never the high bid, but we had multiple opportunites as the high bidder, more than once, didn't work out.  We really would prefer St. George/Hurricane and that area, but prices are rising there and the market is hot currently making it hard to find a good deal that we can afford.

We have finally started to work filling out the online paperwork the church requires to apply for a senior mission!  There is a lot of it.  I'm getting the impression that serving in later life is no way like serving a mission when young.  They have all kinds of questions to answer to find out your talents, skills, experience and preferences so they can "cater" the mission to you.  Yes, cater!  What?  When your younger, it's "I'll go where you want me to go dear lord" and you have very little input.  Apparently, serving when you're older comes with certain perks and privileges.  Wow!  I'm wondering why more don't serve then?

My taurus station wagon got hit again!!  This time again in a parking lot.  While I was in at the dentist office the person who did it, didn't have the courtesy or integrity to leave a note.  However, she had the bad luck to hit my car and I work in the car accident industry so she didn't stand a chance since I know how this all works.  I went back into the dentist office and asked them if they had seen anything.  They had not, but since it was early in the morning (between 7 am and 9 am) none of the other stores in the shopping area were open so there had not been a lot of cars to choose from as to who would have hit me.  I remembered noticing a black truck when I pulled in, whose path when backing up would put them right in my path if they had gone too far.  Also my car had been hit on the hood, rather than the bumper, meaning it was a vehicle higher off the ground.  Also the indentation was about the size a hitch would have made.  So I called the police and reported it.  The dentist receptionist was able to give him the names of the other two patients in that morning.  About a week later, I was notified that they had contacted the perpetrator and they had confessed.  They also got ticketed for leaving the scene of the accident!

My car is still showing the damage a month later, but hopefully will be fixed soon.

Kelan has finally found a job that's a keeper.  We really feel he has been blessed.  A job opportunity came through for him locally, there in Ephraim, to get into the field of his choosing, wood-working.  He has been hired as an apprentice to a gentleman who owns his own shop and makes furniture for the church to use in their temples.  He will probably be learning from the best then.  As he gains experience, his pay should go up, but right now it is not a lot, but there is more to consider than pay with this.

Alyssa is finding it is not so easy to be a working mom.  I could have told her that.  Her children seem to be adjusting well to day care.  That is a plus.

Spencer is now working exclusively for Dominos.  He was let go, unjustly, at Subwayand he is working at clearing his name, but I think he is going to learn that life isn't always fair and hopefully he rise above it and move on to better things.  If you want to know the particulars, you will have to speak to him.

He has set his sights on running a marathon.  He has now started training and plans on running a 5k this month, a 10k in June, a half marathon in July and a marathon in October.  You cousins that have been there, done that, please give him all the advice you can as this will be a new experience for him.

Jenni is still with Myler Disability and has been move up and been given a raise.
