Mother's day was nice. It helped to have Alyssa and her family around. Alyssa gave me a card that made me cry and got me a nicer seat for my bicycle, so I can have success on my biking goal for the summer. Dave pampered me and got me a kindle fire hd. I have been having a good time with it, except for when I get frustrated by technology and can't figure out how to use one of the features. There is definitely a learning curve involved with this.
Speaking of biking goal...I am so jazzed with the new Murdock trail. What a great place to bike! The views are spectacular. It hugs the base of the mountain for quite a good while. You have views of the mountains and the valley. I've set a goal that keeps getting modified. First it was to the mouth of American Fork Canyon, but then I learned the trail doesn't go there it goes out to the valley and hooks up to the Jordan River trail. So then it was to bike to my niece, Kayla's, house in Lehi since their house backs up to the Jordan River trail. Then I learned it isn't completed yet so it doesn't go out that far. So now I'm not sure what my goal is going to be, except to get better and better and go farther and farther on my bike. I started with a 6 mile ride and I am now up to 13 miles. I decided to invite the other women in my ward to join me and we now have a biking group that meets on Wednesday nights at 7 pm and Saturday mornings at 8 am. It's a small group at this point, but hopefully more women will choose to join us as the summer goes on. I'll have to take some photos and get them posted to show what great views I enjoy on these rides.
Speaking of photos. I finally got my family all together and we did a professional photo shoot. Yeah!! Alyssa's sister-in-law has been doing photos of her kids and family ever since Alyssa got engaged to her husband and I've liked the quality of her work, so we hired her and finally in May we were able to get everyone together. We went down to the BYU campus by the Carillon bells. They've converted that big grassy area into a waterfall, pond, creek area that is really pretty and with it being May there were blossoms on the trees and we got some nice shots. Dave and I have never had professional photos taken of us, not even at our wedding, so I was very excited to have these taken. This was my favorite pose of us together.
Here is one of the whole group. See what I mean about the nice surroundings? Almost makes us look beautiful as well.
Here is my favorite one of my three kids together. It has them in their birth order from left to right.
When the come for a visit, it usually is for the whole weekend, which is nice. We do the grandparent thing of babysitting to let Alyssa and Kelan get away for some time alone. Last weekend they were up and celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary. Congratulations.
It is always a joy to have Sierra around. She has got to be the best helper I have ever seen. She wants to help with everything. She is pretty good with the frisbee already as well.
We are slowly gaining Cosette's confidence. She now comes to me quite easily and shows excitement to see me. David, she is still not sure about. In the next photo, I'm sure you can see why.
I went down to Ephraim for a visit on the weekend of Alyssa's birthday. I got to see their new apartment they are now living in. Kelan took me out to the woodworking shop where he is working. Alyssa showed me where she is working and where the girls go to day care with Miss Stephanie. Sierra even brought us some finger paintings she had made in day care the last time she came up. I got to see Sierra ride her new bike with training wheels. She has some learning to do, but I'm sure in no time, she is going to be zooming around.
I learned that Sierra is great with puzzles. Her attention span lasts a long time and she understands how to match pieces up by not only colors but my design. I was very impressed. Here is a puzzle we worked on together that weekend.
Last weekend I brought out the pattern block game and she had fun with that as well.
We are busy getting ready for trek. Dave is the head medical staff this time around and is responsible to bring enough bandages, ibuprofen, cold packs, etc. for all possible medical situations that might arise. He has a team that will work with him that he has to coordinate and delegate assignments to.
We are the aunt and uncle for a family, which has decided to name themselves the Walkers. We have one boy from our ward in our group and the rest of the kids are from other wards in our stake. It is a small family with two girls and three boys and another adult couple acting as grandpa & grandma. They have one older boy and one older girl be the ma and pa. You can see below our family flag we designed. I think it turned out quite well, personally.
I am also involved in girls camp at the end of the month so I am busy getting ready for that as well. We will be down in Ephraim so I hope I'll get to see my grandkids while I am there. The girls will be going to the Manti pageant, doing baptisms for the dead in the Manti temple and hopefully we will have a great experience together. The camp theme is heroes. I've picked Ester as my hero. The girls are making capes to stand for their hero. If I had mine done, I'd post a photo, but that will have to be included on my next post when I report how camp actually went.
Our garden is well underway. We have more lettuce than we know what to do with and we are trying to shield it from the hot temperatures that have been around the last few days. Our peas are finally ready to be picked. Up at the ward garden we have planted cabbage, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, canteloupe and watermelon and I'm happy to say our watermelon is actually growing this year! We are going to have another year where we drown in tomatoes, I'm afraid. I planted our personal tomatoes here at the house. I purposely only planted 6 to make sure we didn't have a repeat like other years and then David went and planted twelve more plants up at the ward garden and three more plants here at the house. As much as we like fresh salsa and salads, you can only eat so much though!
Jenni continues to work at Mylar Disability. She is in the last phase department, working with clients as they go through the hearing process. Spencer is now working full time for Dominos Pizza. He is being trained for a shift manager position and continues to deliver pizzas in the evenings. I think he likes the tips he makes. He reported last night making $100 in one night. Can't complain about that.
Spencer has also set a goal to run a marathon and got into the St. George marathon in October. He is training and a week before the race, he talked me into running a 5k with him on Memorial Day. I hadn't been training, but I did it. I was surprised by my time (34:57), but was sore for days afterwards. I took 3rd place in my age category. I just may run the Guns n Hoses 5k for Pleasant Grove's Strawberry Days on June 22nd. I'll decide after trek.
Spencer is running a half marathon this Saturday, the AF Canyon half marathon. He says he starts at Tibble Fork and runs down the canyon. We'll see how he does. He is shooting for 2 hrs.
